Is it just me but I have noticed the wood stocks of many new rifles today ,are some what poor in finish. I recently purchased 2 older Marlin 336.the wood grain is beautiful ,one was made in 1973, the other 1989. I know alot of the manufactures of rifles and handguns love plastic for its cost, but for me certain firearms just dont look right with out wood stocks or grips.I have tried hogue, pachmyer,on some revolvers over the years, but when I put the stock wood grain grips on my 1978 COLT TROOPER 111 its just down right pretty!!!!! One thing Ive noticed the finish on alot of rifles today are dull with no gloss at all.Anyway Iam :D:D:Dabout 53 years old fashion!!

It all depends upon the rifle. Old "poor man's guns" didn't exhibit much better wood yesteryear as do similar examples today. Other rifle's are available with a beautiful hunk of wood and (with a bit of searching) a gloss finish as well. FWIW I, too, like a nice piece of wood with a polished blue bit of steel plopped atop.

:)
