Question about 7.62X54 Ammo

Just stopped in at my local gun shop, and peaked at the pricing for the 7.62X54 ammo. Noticed that all of it was labeled corrosive.
Is there any of this ammo that is not corrosive?
If you shot with it, what is the process to clean it?

There are several outfits making modern non-corrosive 54R. Wolf and Silver Bear labels out of Russia, S&B from the Czech republic, Lapua and Norma out of Scandinavia, Privi Partisan out of Serbia or somesuch. Some of it is even boxer primed and reloadable.

Assume ALL surplus 54R is highly corrosive. I usually bring a bottle of Mpro spray with me and clean the barrel out after the session, then have a complete cleaning that night. The trouble comes if you shoot it and leave it for weeks or months.
 
Federal makes x54r that is non corrosive. I just buy cheap corrosive and clean it well every time.
 
Soap and water down the barrell will also dissolve the corrosive salts. If you use really hot water and allow it to air dry, then follow up with a light coat of oil you'll be fine.
 
I shot some of the stuff that century sells, hotshot, a little while back and it was alright for 10.99 a box.
Mostly I just stick with some Bulgarian I bought back a while ago.
 
There is non-corrosive ammo out there as stated above. It's pricey though.

Think of the price difference between corrosive and non-corrosive as the "cleaning fee" for shooting non-corrosive.

I'll save the money and spend the extra 5-15 minutes cleaning the rifle properly. ;)
 
The not so secret weapon against corrosive ammo: Windex (or any generic equivalent)

Super simple if you're shooting a bolt action. After you shoot, pull the bolt, point the rifle down, stick the nozzle in the breach, and soak the bore really good. Take a damp rag and wipe off the bolt face. Push a couple patches through the bore and then clean normally with your favorite bore cleaner and gun oil. Easy peasy.

Windex is mostly water. You can have the same effect by filling a spray bottle with water. Some people add alcohol to mak it dry faster and/or household ammonia (which is also mostly water) to dissolve copper.

Surplusrifle.com did a test on solvents for corrosive ammunition. The winner? Water.

You're right. There are no magical powers to Windex. I often refill the Windex bottle with water and a couple drops of dish detergent as a surfactant.
 
Well, when it comes to water I heard what the Brits used to do as SOP in the good ol' days was to boil up a kettle and pour it right down the barrel.
Could give that a try.

Yes sir WIndex is da snizzle for corrosive- Use it often on beltfeds when we are done for the day at a multi day shoot- spray down the barrel and the bolt faces at the very least. Before we leave and crate them up I will blow through at least 3 cans of brake cleaner/spray alcohol (cheaper than PB et al) then windex and finish with breakfree for the ride home- 2 days later do it all again.
