The rear sight and hammer have some sharp edges..Now my question may seem a little dumb to you long time gunaholics..But can anyone tell me how to take the sharp edge off and if so how??
thanks
You'll hve to refinish whatever parts you doctor on, but assuming I understand the question correctly, I would use a peice of fine emory cloth to round off sharp edges and burrs on the exterior of your piece. I'm guessing you have something poking you or cutting your shirts from the holster?????
Sharp edges are around the outside of the hammer and top of the rear sight, sometimes when either presenting or just by accident my hand or finger will hit the sharp edges. Never drawn blood but if there is an easy fix, I would like to smooth them down. I am not sure if that will harm the finish...if it would not then I could use the emory cloth...what do you think ??
You could do a buff job with a Dremel...but refinishing may be a hassle.
Which model do you own? If it's for CCW, and the edges really bother you, consider a meltdown, or have someone like ROBAR do the edge removal for you. Personally, if it doesn't draw blood or tear up my clothes, then I leave it as is.
Get a dealer, 'smith, or good pal with the SIG sight tool to remove the rear sight. Use some emery and round off those sharp edges.
As for the hammer, I suggest you remove the slide and use some emery on the hammer. With the slide off you can get 360-degree access to the hammer and an errant stroke of the emery won't inadvertently damage the slide.
