A while back I bought a Sig 225-A1 as a replacement for the Sig 239 I gave to my son for a graduation present. About that same time I decided my threat level was low so I started pocket carrying a Ruger LCP instead and have rarely carried the 225-A1. Because of certain recent events nationally I've strapped the 225-A1 on a few times recently. My issue is the magazine base plates have very sharp corners and edges so carrying a spare magazine can be quite uncomfortable. Has anyone else encountered this and if you have, what was your solution?

I've considered smoothing out the corners and edges but with replacement magazines being expensive, when they are in stock, I don't want to risk having to replace one if rounding the edges interferes with functionality. So if you have addressed this issue, please chime in.

The 225-A1 is an awesome and highly underappreciated pistol and I prefer DA/SA hammer fired pistols for carry so no, changing firearms is not the solution I'm looing for.

I viewed, and typed up a couple sentence reply, but I don't have a P225, and my comments were regarding bumper pads for a different firearm, but my quick research seem to show it doesn't look like they have them for the P225, so I deleted my earlier post, but I included this so you wouldn't feel lonely.

I've got and have occasionally carried my old-school, but similar P225 (not a P225A1), and yes, the bottom baseplates of the mags can be somewhat sharp at times, as with any spare mag I've carried.

I think finding the right spare mag carrier is most important and will depend on one's build, and perhaps where the mag rides on one's belt-line.
A covered mag pouch may be in order for some folks, although I've been fine with open-top mag pouches and merely sliding the pouch from ~9:15 to 7:45 in my case.

Here's an Amazon link to what I'm thinking about for a covered mag pouch, even though I don't own one of these.
I've been known to carry a spare mag, flashlight, and even handcuffs, on my left/rear side and I know mags and other items can become annoying/uncomfortable.

Trying to recall how the A1 mags are oriented it I don’t recall them being sharp. Standard 225 mags can be a bit sharp I suppose.

I had that problem with Browning Hi Power mags and I went with a different baseplate or electric tape on the sharp part. That or just try to sand down the edge a bit I guess.

I don't have a P225-A1. But I also had discomfort issues with my P365 and P365XL grip modules and the floor plates on the magazines. Griping the pistol firmly was not quite painful, but it was very noticeably uncomfortable. I sanded both the rear of the grip module and the magazine floor plate edges. Now I can grip the handgrip tightly enough that I can see it physically deform. A little bit of elbow grease made a huge comfort improvement.

The photos of P225-A1 pistols that I see online show 90° angles on the magazine floor plate that can't be very comfortable. I'm assuming the floor plates are plastic and would be easy to radius with wet or dry sandpaper. You don't need to remove that much plastic to make it comfortable in your hand. Sanding a mild radius on a 90° edge isn't going to have much effect on the floor plate strength. Also, you don't need to sand the edges super smooth. After you have sanded down to about 400 grit or so you can just hand buff the plastic part on denim jeans.

I have the same issue with my CZ 75 Compact. It has metal baseplates on the mags and my hands are big enough that the metal edge digs into my hand.
I need to find some different mags or baseplates or grind these down so they don't stick out.

Mine is the plain 225, not the A-1.

I checked my 4 mags and they are smooth with no sharp edges.

I checked my P-228. Same here.

Your CZ must be of an earlier vintage than mine. All my CZ magazines (Compact and full sized) have polymer baseplates that have smooth edges. I wonder if trying the new baseplates may help your situation?

Stay safe.

I found some baseplates, but they were pretty expensive.
I was probably looking in all the wrong plaaces
