I have a 1000 Alcan Max-Fire small pistol primers. They have been stored well but, I don't know how hot they are. Anyone know about them? I am loading 9mm luger with 115gr. FMJ and Unique powder. I know they have been out of production for some time.
Thanks

I'm not sure what info your looking for. I don't know anything about them but I'd just load & work it up as usual.

I am trying to find out if they are similar to magnum primers or standard.

I've tried magnum & standard side by side & didn't see any difference so I'd still say the same.

Magnum primers have larger hotter flash with longer duration than standard primers.

I would work up using longer OAL (1.150"-1.160") if they work with your pistol/barrel at start charge. If you do not have pressure issues and can seat the bullet deeper without compressing the powder charge, I would try shorter lengths to improve neck tension (1.130"-1.140").

2004 Alliant load data lists 5.5 gr of Unique as max charge for 115 gr FMJ at 1.120" OAL. So you could start at 5.0 gr and 1.150"-1.160" OAL - http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=182147&d=1364769070

Thanks for all of the information. I am starting out as bds has suggested.
