I'll be coming to California (I know) and NYC (I KNOW) and Mississipi.

I'm pretty sure handgun carry for tourist is plain illegal, but I want to know what other legal alternatives I can have for defence.

OCs are legal in all of them to my knowledge.
Batons, forget it on all three, unsure about mississipi.

^^^^ These two are what I'm most comfortable with as they are what
I legally carry back home (So uth Cor ea)

Taser, I know C2 requires background check to get it working but what about M26Ls?

Thanks in advance.

Batons are BIG felony trouble in California - moreso than illegal CCW of a gun.

No, I'm not kidding.

OC is legal. It's difficult to fly with (forbidden in carry-on, might blow up in your undies in the unpressurized cargo area) so plan on grabbing some in-state. Every gun shop has plenty and many hardware stores and auto parts places have some.

The real "silver lining" to be found in California weapons laws involve knives. Any non-switchblade folder can be concealed regardless of length. For more details see:

In Mississippi car carry of a loaded handgun is legal. We also have Castle doctrine and no bans on black rifles or magazines. 18+ for handgun possession and 21 for CCW permit. We also have reciprocity with many states. Just watch out for the Natchez Trace Parkway as it is federal and no loaded guns of any kind are allowed. On the parkway all guns must be cased with the ammo in a separate case in another part of the vehicle.

I know it's not what you want to hear but you might just consider not spending your hard earned money on tourism in a state that won't allow you to protect yourself with the weapon of your choice.

Just a thought......

You can visit CA with a handgun. Unfortunately, you'll have to keep it unloaded and in the triunk or in a locked box while driving. There is no problem keeping it unloaded in a motel, unless they have specific prohibitions. If you are staying with freinds or family, you can keep it loaded in their homes.

You can also keep it loaded while fishing, camping or hunting, unless the specific location prohibits guns, such as state, local and national parks. most BLM lands and national forrests are OK. There are many other places you can carry depending on your itinerary.

Actually you can keep a loaded firearm in the hotel as long as they don't have a policy against it.

You can not keep a loading firearm while fishing. Even while hunting is hit or miss, depending on season/ area.

12026.2. (a) Section 12025 does not apply to, or affect, any of the following:

(11) The transportation of a firearm by a person when going directly to, or coming directly from, a lawful camping activity for the purpose of having that firearm available for lawful personal protection while at the lawful campsite. This paragraph shall not be construed to override the statutory authority granted to the Department of Parks and Recreation or any other state or local governmental agencies to promulgate rules and regulations governing the administration of parks and campgrounds.

Since you say you're a tourist you will be a non-immigrant alien for the purposes of Federal law, which does mean possession of a firearm is out of the question.

There are a couple of exceptions to that, for diplomats and cops (while on police business) and those the AG gives permission to. The only exception that is really open to regular folks is if you are going hunting and have a valid hunting license in the state you are travelling to.

all that means is you can transport a firearm too and from a camp site( where it is legal to have unless otherwise stated) that does not mean you can carry it.

Sorry guys, but had to ask again.

It seems pretty clear that OCs are legal in all of them, but what about Taser?
I know it's illegal in NYC though. (for civies anyways)

So uth Cor ea

Just to make sure here, since you were not particularly clear.

Are you a US Citizen or not? If not then you are pretty much out of luck with all of it as far as I can tell.

fokket,

For California, you should check Jim's web-site (in port #14 above.) I believe the site also tell you what legal and not legal to carry (type of knife, OC, etc... etc...)

You don't even need to bring it with you (I believe that OC is a no, no on airplane, not even checked luggage.) You can pick them up at local sporting goods.

Good Luck, and enjoy your visit.

Sorry I didn't catch the non citizen part. I would check but I think knives and batons are good to go in Mississippi. What part of Mississippi? I have a membership at a good range if you are nearby at a good time.
