Does anyone know how well you need to do to pass the marksmanship portion of your CCW class?

Where do live, Troy?

In my area (California), you must shoot 6 rounds, drop mag, insert new mag and shoot 6 more rounds at 3 yards, 7 yards and 15 yards. You must place at least 28 shots in the black (paper BG ).

Some certifiers make you go through single hand shooting at 7 yards with both strong hand and weak hand. I know of one other man that requires you to do several scenarios of "PANIC" shooting. He screws with your gun (unloads or puts in a cartridge backward thus giving you a malfunction) and then gives you 9 seconds to figure out the problem, fix the problem, give a verbal warning to the paper BG and shoot the paper bad guy. What'a chore THAT one was! But very insightful......

Depends on your state. I'm a CCW instructor. Utah doesn't require a shooting portion.

Fire a couple dozen rounds at a target and not hit the instructor or anyone else.

Florida resident permit.

No test in Washington.

No class required in Washington.

:) I like this state...

Depends on your state, in KY it's if I remember correctly 11 out of 20 on a human torso sized target at 21 feet.

VERY HARD TO

fail :neener:

No test in Georgia. $48.00 fee in Forsyth County.
If I remember correctly, Tennessee still has a test.

The written test is mandatory here in Tennessee, but the qualification shoot is not. Nonetheless, the instructor of these classes where I work, at Coal Creek Armory, does insist on a qualification shoot for HIS class. It's an easy qual, however, requiring the student to fire 48 rounds at a B27 silhouette, at distances of 3, 7, and 15 yds. One must place at least 40 shots within the 8 ring. I think a blind man could do this.

South Carolina's test is 35 out of 50 on the written. 35 out of 50 in the black on the target.

3 yards
7 yards
10 yards
15 yards

I can't remember how many rouds at each distance but if you hit anywhere in the black 35 out of 50 you pass. SC requires some to be drawn from holster but not all of them and I believe you only fire 5 rounds at 15 yards. Everyone in my class hit 50 out of 50 including a woman that had never fired her .380 before.

It's been quite a few years since I took the class here in Louisville but the shooting part was very easy. I don't remember the exact number of rds fired but only so many had to hit the black of a silhuouette target at 21 feet. I believe most people that shoot at all could have closed their eyes before every shot and probably passed. The instructor we had told us he wanted everyone to leave with an understanding of what he had taught us about concealed carry and safety but also wanted each one of us to pass and would work with anyone having problems to make that possible.
