is the S&W 64 2" barrel the same as a 642?

The picture in their catalog shows an exposed hammer revolver. .and it reads S&W 64 2"

if I do a google image search of the 642, its a non-exposed hammer.. which leads me to believe they are different guns..

Sure are. The model 64 is the stainless version of the model 10. Like the M10, it is a six-shot K-frame. The 2" M64s were produced for the California Department of Corrections, if I remember correctly (pun unintended).

The 642 is a five-shot, concealed-hammer wheelgun on an aluminum ("Airweight") J-frame.

model 64

My wife owned a model 64 2" and sold it . A decision she has regretted ever since, as have I.
You're right about it's having the exposed hammer. It looks just like my 2" model 60 except that the 64 is a 6 shot K frame whereas the 60 is a 5 shot J frame.
We found the 64 to be accurate, reliable , and fun to shoot and will probably buy another one if the oppurtunity presents itself.
