Most of the old coach guns with exposed hammers like the old west style have chokes in the barrels and the barrels are 20" long. How far do those chokes extend into the barrel and can the barrels be cut to the legal 18" length without damaging the gun?

Pretty sure you would lose the chokes by cutting those last 2in off so you would end up with open barrels. Not worth the hassle and cost to get rid of 1.75in in my opinion (would leave it bit over 16 to be safe).

I believe the TTN coach guns are NOT choked. And leave them a bit over 18" to be safe, not 16".

The Baikal/Remington Spartan coach guns are also 20 inch cylinder bore, except the version that has removable choke tubes. Most others that I know of, like Stoeger and CZ, are usually choked IC/Mod, I believe. I wouldn't cut off more than 1.5 inches myself. Not much, if any choke, would be left and you'd still be legal. I remember looking at a used Brno coach gun that had barrels just over 18" and a slight cast to the stock. It was a sweet little gun.

Oh, BTW, Baikal does/did offer a version with functioning external hammers but it also came with 4 removable choke tubes.
