I'm looking for a copper cutter that doesn't contain ammonia. Reason is I used a copper solvent that has ammonia and think it may have put some nicks in a barrel. The solvents I am told that don't contain ammonia are Kleen Bore Copper Cutter No. 10, Shooters Choice Extreme Clean, and Outer's Super Solvent Bore Cleaner. Anyone have any experience with any of these products? Thanks.

I don't know of any effective copper cleaner that doesn't contain ammonia. Maybe someone who has used the ones you mentioned can comment, but I think they contain it, too. I use Sweet's 7.62, which has a strong ammonia content, and it has never damaged any of my barrels. I doubt ammonia could cause nicks, unless it ate out some kind of foreign material that was imbedded in the steel. Likely culprits would be the cleaning rod or jag, or the result of the manufacturing process.

I believe copper cutters if left in too long, ie overnight, can damage a barrel. If its visible nicks, though, I agree that it is the cleaning rod or brush. A bore guide is a useful accessory to prevent damage from cleaning.
