Question about Hi-power mags dropping free

I removed the magazine disconnect - easy once I managed to get the pins to budge - and both the MecGar magazines and the cheap no-name aftermarket mags both drop free with no problem. I was going to see about polishing the surface of the disconnect, but I don't think that would help - it was already pretty smooth.

The change in the trigger-pull, however, was negligible. It was very good before the removal, and any change is beneath my ability to detect.

I say DO NOT tamper or remove the Browning High Power model magazine safety feature. This can cause major legal hassles for you later on. A documented case involved a civil trial where a High Power owner was questioned about this subject and it was an issue at his court trial.

:scrutiny: Sources???

I HIGHLY doubt that the removal of the magazine disconnect (NOT safety) would have anything to do with it -- the fact of the matter is that he negligently discharged his weapon and killed someone. End of story.

Additionally, why would it matter what he did to a BHP when he killed the woman with a 1911? :scrutiny:

I'd like to see the documentation that you say you have on this case. Until then, I remain doubtful.

For what it's worth, I have two Browning Hi-Powers and 1 FN Herstal MK-III. All 10, 13 and 15 round mags drop free and none of the guns have the mag disconnect removed.

UPDATE

I finally got a chance to remove the sear spring and check it out. Liek I said before, I could see that it was rubbing on the mags. I bent the spring a little bit and now the mags drop free no problem. I dropped the slide on an empty chamber 5-10 times and no hammer follow, so it seems that all is well internally. It also greatly reduced the trigger pull. I'm guessing that before it was in the 8 pound range. Now it's got to be in the 4-4.5 range. Before this I was considering sending it out for a trigger job. Now I don't have to.:D There's no creep and it breaks just as clean as the trigger on my Kimber. Thanks Mr. Camp and all the rest who replied!
