You can do it that. It will not always work on all BHPs. He is removing the Magazine Safety/Trigger Spring Pin not the trigger pin. I normally take the entire trigger out by removing the trigger pin.
I haven't examined my Hi Power to see what might cause the hammer follow, but I had it happen (aka, decocking) on my Beretta 92 and when I checked it out I found that the sear spring was just a bit tired. I haven't even replaced it yet, just bent a little more tension into it and it stopped the hammer follow/decocking. Perhaps your Hi Power has something simple like that happening.Now I'm getting hammer follow.
