I went into my local gun shop today with the intention of just buying some ammo, and a PPS M2 followed me home. From handling the gun in the store I really liked it and still do, just I've noticed a bit of a quirk with it. As is normal practice for me with a new gun, I got it home, took it down gave it a good clean and lube. The gun came apart in the standard Glock fashion with no problems. Getting the gun back together, however is another story. I feel like I REALLY have to force the top end back in place. It feels like the slide is catching on something, but I can't quite sort out what it would be. Anyone have similar issues with a PPS (M1 or M2)? Is this something that may require a phone call to Walther CS and a repair ticket?

Probably not much help here but the magazine is out? trigger pulled to the rear? barrel seated flush into the slide and the recoil spring locked down in place? Not trying to insult you but i have overlooked some of these simple things once or twice in my life :).

If still stuck, try just putting the slide on without the barrel and recoil spring and see if the slide goes on freely. It might help you trouble shoot where its hanging up. Congrats on the pistol. I've been wanting one of those myself :)

Yup, check mark in each of those boxes...funny thing is if I pull the trigger slightly away from the frame, everything goes back together as it should. It seems that the hang up is the plunger for the striker block.

I recently purchased a Bulgarian Makarov. Judging from it's condition I believe it has never been shot.

Stripped, cleaned and oiled. I could not get the slide back on. Probably fought with it for close to a hour. Finally got the slide on and when I racked the slide a large metal shaving came out between the slide and frame rail.

I have no idea exactly where the shaving was but it was proof the gun has never been shot.

Mine is not m2 but i took it apart and when i put back together when the slide is about even with the frame i feel a slight hitch. I don't believe anything is wrong after the little hitch the slide is racked normally.

Watch the slide carefully as you slide it back in place, mine hangs up slightly just before it goes all the way back into position, I think it hangs up slightly on the ejector. Anyhow all I do is "lift" the rear end slightly as I side it backwards once I get past the mag well, and it slides over.

Im assuming the M2 has a removable back straps. If so is the backstrap fully reseated after reassembly?

There are no removable backstraps for the M2 PPS. I did find out through the Walther Forums, however, that the trigger must be reset for the slide to seat properly. The manual makes no mention of this step being necessary, but per a couple of posts over there, Walther has in fact confirmed that the trigger on the M2 needs to be reset for proper re-assembly.

Oh my mistake. I just assumed the M2 had removable backstraps like the M1. But glad you found a solution

The M1 had removable backstraps as part of a Quicksafe decocking safety. I guess enough people didn't like the feature and Walther ended up dropping it from the model.
