I bought the Remington 870 Express Combo which comes with a smooth bore bird barrel and a rifled slug barrel. Now here's my question.... I've heard mixed things about shooting regular slugs through a rifled barrel. Some people tell me it's ok, and others say no way and to ONLY use sabots. When I checked the manual to the gun, it didn't mention anything at all. Anyone have an opinion? I'd love to go out and practice more often, but at $10 for a box of 5 shots, that can get damn expensive. Hell, for $10 worth of ammo, I could shoot a .22 rifle all weekend :p

If the bore is rifled, sabots are the best choice almost always. Regular slugs wil not group well for the most part, and they'll leave lots of lead to scrub out.

Check with your local gun shop. It's after season, and they may cut you a break on a case or two. First, establish which one is grouping best.

The Slugs 101 thread has more input on this...
