Question about replacing SA 1911 adjustable sights.

Hi everyone,

I just got my Harrison fixed rear in to replace the stock LPA adjustables on my Range Officer, but I have a slight problem. I don't know which direction to drift them out!!! Been searching for a while now and still can't find anything. Not even a youtube video! Also, are there any hidden set screws on the stock LPA sight? I read somewhere that Bomars have a set screw that is hidden, so you need to remember to remove it before trying to drift the sights out. Is it the same situation with the LPA sight or do I simply have to push them out?

Bump...

I have my sight and sight pusher just sitting here, but I seriously can't get a definitive answer on which direction the sight drifts out. C'mon, with all the 1911 fanatics around here, somebody has to know!

The answer most generally given as "textbook" is remove sights left to right (----> as viewed from the rear) and install right to left (<----).
Unfortunately, I found this doesn't always apply. For example see this chart for a Meprolight sight pusher:

I don't know if the LPA sight installs with set screws. If it does, the screws will be under the rear sight leaf. You will need to unscrew the elevation screw to check for them. Be careful not to lose any small parts associated with the screw and the leaf (such as spring/plunger for the screw and springs under the leaf).

FWIW, I've used the "text book" method on my Colt OACP (and several other makes/models of pistols) to good effect.
