Once you have them zeroed down and all that ... can you flash-sight?

Meaning ... bring the scope up, and as soon as the crosshairs are over the intended target let go the shot with pretty good success?

I can do ok with the iron sights, but I am yet to try it on the scope (4x power).

I am scoping the AR, my first scope ever, and as I understand once I have a un-vignetted clear view of the cross hairs over the target is good to go.

Say it is a 12x12 target at 100 yards.

Once you have clear view ... there is any other alignement to do on the sight picture or just go for the shot as soon as the crosshairs are where you want them?

I never shot with a scope before ...

No, no further alignment. WYSIWYG - what you see is what you get. Once you zero it for a given range, then once you see those x-hairs on, you are good to pop! :)

I'll take a while till I have some desert time with it, then I will post a report on scope n00b experience.

WYSIWYG ... I died and went to heaven then.

yes

but I think 4X might be pushing the limits on that sort of thing ?
(a lot of which is influenced by field of view, and even more to do with "fit", whether or not rifle lines up naturally when thrown to shoulder, just like fitting a shotgun)

however, it is very easily done with low X power scopes, up to and including 2.5X
not unlike shooting with a rifle mounted red dot sight, you aquire target both both eyes open
close off eye (or don't) according to your preference, but I squint off eye when squeezing trigger

I think it can be (for most folks) quicker and more consistent than open sights, as there is no front/rear "alignment" involved, just a single plane sight picture

on the other hand, I always was slow with a red dot on a handgun, far quicker and at least as consistent with open irons... but shoot a lot quicker with handgun than with rifle (I don't do SA rifles), it's all very subjective

I am practicing target acquisition in my back yard at 35 meters against an army of colored tiles.

I have family coming into town soon and maybe I will have a chance to shoot it when I take them to the BLM lands where is legal and safe to have some "shooting sports" time.

I am practicing with both eyes open, just like with my handguns, and so far I am not getting a headache!!

alot of folks bring a rifle up quick with crosshairs on target, pull the trigger quick and miss. You need to focus on a spot on that target you want to hit don't just focus on the whole animal. Second trigger control needs to be there. If you don't flinch and secure the crosshair on a portion of the animal you should hit as long as you know how your gun shoots

I get worried about the background more than the target. Quick shots look good and all, but what use are they at 100+ yards?! If you are hunting boar in the thick, perhaps. Sounds risky to me for hunting purposes, or even just horsing around.
