OK, I live in Texas, so now that the federal full-cap mag ban is over, I can get post-sunset mags pretty cheap. In other states where you have a state ban, can you still get pre-bans? If so, how do you do it?

What I'm thinking is that since I can get post-sunsets for 20 bucks, why can't I sell y'all my pre-bans for the cost of replacing them? Is it legal to send pre-bans into states that have a ban? I mean, they existed before your ban, just in my state, right?

Somebody, please help me understand the ramifications, because if it's legal, I don't see why those of use in places where we can get post-sunset mags shouldn't help out our friends in other states.

Thanks in advance,

Mac

If youre thinking of CA, its illegal to bring mags into the state period. The ones already in the state are legal. This raises the interesting point that it is impossible to tell when a mag was imported into the state. So basically any mag not stamped "govt only" is ok to posess as long as it doesnt have a date on it (none do). So basically there should be an enormous grey market in CA. I wouldnt be surprised if most mags for sale in CA were brought into the state well after the ban.

So there is no legal way to sell the pre-bans in CA.

In New York State there are no restrictions on the sale and possession of pre-ban mags.

In New York City, mags of any kind can only be possessed by people with handgun licenses or rifle permits, and even then only mags that fit the licensed weapon. Further, the mags can only be sold and purchased from firearm dealers. Also, regardless of manufacture date, no mag can hold more than 17 rounds. Finally, a handgun mag cannot extend past the bottom of the grip. That means you can't even possess a 10 round G17 mag for your G26.

It's crazy, but if I don't stay to vote for change...who will??

Having grown up in NYC I gave a bit of thought to the subject and abandoned any hope of reforming NYC. No matter what happens there, people are solidly anti-gun, even more so than the average californian. And since most of the population of NY state is in NYC, NYC is basically making the laws for the whole state.

What I predict will happen is that terrorists will attack NYC again, because they really seem to like doing it, only this time it will be with nukes. NYC will basically be depopulated and since NY is an otherwise red state, will begin to repeal gun control laws in the state and also elect republican senators. Without NYC, goodbye hillary and schumer. Something like this would also fundamentally change electoral politics for presidentical elections, since a major blue state would no longer be blue. Unless Democrats became radically more conservatives, the republicans wouldnt even have to try anymore.

Where does it say all that in the Second Amendment?

I don't think so. The population of New York is 19 million and the population of NYC is 8 million. And given that Staten Island votes republican, there simply has to be more dems than reps in the rest of the state. Wiping out NYC won’t change anything.

It isn't something you have to guess about. You can view the county level results from the election. The vast majority of NY state is "red." Just like Pennsylvania. The major cities are what make the difference.

Even with NYC in play, Bush got almost 3 million votes in NY state. That's 40% in a state he never visited or made any effort to win. That reminds me of a bad joke Leno made the other night. Something about "everybody who voted for Bush in California called in. It was Larry and Fred and...."

Bush got 4.4 million votes in California, once again without ever even campaigning there. That's 44% of the vote.

Just guessing from how the PRK ban works, it isn't an issue of pre-ban or post-ban magazines. The issue simply is how many rounds does it hold? In the PRK if it holds more than 10 rounds, you can't buy, trade, sell, give away, or do anything with those magazines. You can keep the ones you had prior to January 1, 2000. Which is all of them right??? I bought all of my M1A magazines back in 1985 when I was eight. I wish I had as much stock market sense as gun sense back then! ;) I know I have a box full of AR-15 mags around here too that I also bought back in 1985. I am going to find them sooner or later. I find trips to Vegas tend to job my memory best.

So you can't legally send us any magazines unless they are less than 11 rounds. Sorry. I do appreciate you sending me those magazines I bought from you back in 1985 though. That was very nice of you! ;)

NJ: No mag holding greater than 15 rounds is permited.

Various methods of permanently or temporarilly blocking them to 15 rounds seems to be OK.

It would no longer be a major state period since electoral college votes are based on population.

MacPelto,

That's exactly how it works in Massachusetts. Standard capacity magazines are legal if they were manufactured before the AWB went into effect, even if they're currently in another state. Let me know if you've got any full size USP9 mags? :)
