Question about the 1986 Machine Gun Ban

Pardon my ignorance but what case caused the machine gun banning of 1986? Also just out of curiosity, how does gatling gun ownership work where there is no trigger (just a crank)?

Rep. Hughes of New Jersey, an intentionally misinterpreted voice vote and the NRA caused the machine gun freeze of 1986.

To be considered an emmagee a weapon needs to discharge multiple times for each depression of the trigger. A crank does not render this function.

But put a fan belt on that crank wheel and hook it up to an electric motor and you'll be in trouble. Army did that to an original Gatling just to prove the concept was feasible.
