So, as mentioned in another thread I will be building a model 70 off of an action I received and had a question. The rifle had originally been a push feed, would it be possible to build the rifle as a controlled feed?

Far as I can tell the only difference between a push feed and a controlled feed are the bolt and barrel, neither of which I have. But I figure I ask if there are any details that I am missing just in case.

There are differences in the bolt geometry, and also some differences in the receivers rails that the bolt rides on. I had a CRF Classic action handy...
Midwest Gunworks has a good picture of the different bolt types IIRC. I'd look at that pic to get an idea.
Those rails are something like 3/32nds on the left side. Easy to crack or break. Something to be aware of.
FWIW push or CRF works pretty well either way. If your action is push feed, I'd go with that.
If you want a somewhat cheap CRF action, look at the Classic actions or the newer Ultimate Shadows. You might save the barrel off of an older one. The newer one, maybe not. They are finer threads and tight as a booger on a diner table.

Given enough time and money many things are possible. I don't think this is, and if it is possible it won't be economically feasible. If you want CRF you'd be better off buying one.

I prefer CRF, but the PF Winchesters are generally pretty darn good. Not something I'd lose a lot of sleep over.

In fact, if you only have an action with no bolt I'm not sure it is worth going forward. Buying a bolt and having it fitted ain't cheap.
