I did a search and looked through about 20 pages of results but never saw the answer to this question.

I also tried searching around on the S&W site, the only thing I haven't done is call them, but I figured I'd ask the all knowing interweb first. :D

I'm looking to spend my tax refund on another 357magnum and I've got it narrowed down to either a 5" 327 TRR8 or a 5" 627. Either way it will be my first PC gun. I was wondering, can I order a gun with specific features from the PC or do i just need to search around until I find something I like? The 327 is pretty straight forward, however for the 627, things like a non fluted cylinder, maybe differernt grips (although those are easy to change out so it's not a big deal) maybe different triggers, hammers, polished, glass beaded...

I've also seem some black guns like the .44 hunter and even a couple 500 magnums that were two tone. Black with sections that were polished as well.

I don't mind waiting and if I were to order exactly what I wanted I would expect to wait some time, but if I really need to search around I'll be waiting as well so either way I'm not going to get it right away.

Thanks.

If you know what you want, contact Smith & Wesson with the list and ask for a bid. Within reason, they will make a one-of-a-kind gun - but expect it to be expensive.

I finally heard back from S&W.

Answer is no. They make what they make and if you don't like it, too bad. You CAN however send whatever it is you bought back to them to make changes. For example they said the non fluted cylinder is $85 plus $35 labor.

Well you can always spend your money somewhere else. :banghead:

You'd have to get an unfluted cylinder from them. Most everything else you mentioned (such as special hammers, triggers, stocks, etc.) are available frm aftermarket sources.

I'm a little bit surprised - I thought that custom guns was something the Performance Center was supposed too do. Apparently not.

Oh well....

The last two times I contacted the S&W Performance Center I was told; "We won't do that."

First item was what I though a very simple task. Take the case hardened forged hammer and trigger out of my 3" 66-4 and replace it with flash chromed forged parts.

Second job I inquired about was installing a match grade barrel and Briley bushing in my Melonite 4566. "NO!" Well....how about cutting some slide serrations on the front of the slide? "No!".......well what exactly will y'all do? "CLICK!". TJ

5" 327 TRR8

I had one of these until I traded it for a Nighthawk 1911. It was a great gun, very accurate, and had nice utility.

AND S&W does not have a custom shop per se, they more just tune guns.

I just recently contacted Smith by email concerning a PC M657 snubbie and the M357 Night Guard. I asked about availability thinking the Night Guard was a new product and may not be available yet. Basically, when are they going to start shipping? Their response was "CONTACT YOUR DEALER." .... like I didn't already know this...

I did, and nobody has a M357 NG but the PC M657 is available if you order it. So, do I order a PC M657 or wait for the NG M357? How long? I can't or won't buy both.

So are the PC guns that much better than regular production and worth the extra cost? Nothing is ever simple. Maybe I'll just buy a BFR in 475/480 and move on because I certainly don't "need" another 41 mag. S&W may have just missed a future sale.
