Having read the stickied threads and seeing only one on Magazines I thought I would ask you a question.
I recently purchased a used Springfield 1911, for some reason the shop when they put the gun in my case removed the magazine to show me it was cleared and then did not replace the magazine when they cased the firearm.
We argued a little over the phone but I gave up and bought 4 magazines from SARCO Inc.
I took my new gun and my new mags out to shoot today and had some feed problems.
The first thing I noticed is the American Eagle ammo is nasty for fouling the weapon. This gun looked like it was dropped in an ash bucket when I went to clean it.
The second thing I noticed was that as I reloaded the mags seemed to function better. originally 3 of the 4 had feed issues, reloading and working them a little the next one had no issues after reloading once.
The other two took the rest of a box of fifty to eventually have one each run with no feed issues.
So is this normal for breaking in mags or should I do something else to them to tweek them a little?
Anyone else who might have an answer please chime in. To the exception of those of you who want to tell me to trade it in for a polymer gun...........

The chances that the gun will function properly are much better if you have good magazines. The price alone - one third to one fourth the cost of name brands - makes me suspicious, not to mention that they have no name brand. :scrutiny:

All springs will take a set after some use, but unless they're really cheap springs, I'd say that it would require more than one or two cycles. I can't make a call on the Sarco magazines because I've never seen any to the best of my knowledge.

Those magazines look like they will be fine to take to the range and use for some informal practice but you will want to invest in some magazines with a better reputation.

Wilson 47Ds and factory Kimber and Colt magazines are what have worked best for me.

Ive never used them but I would not hesitate to use Chip McCormick Power Mags or anything from Mec-Gar.

ACT-MAGs that come with RIA 1911s have proven 100 percent reliable when I have used them out of RIA pistols. I have not used them with any of the other makes of 1911s. The

I'm not planning on competition shooting and using this Gun for home defense in the immediate future. I plan on shooting it a lot and expect to need to make adjustments on some things to get comfortable shooting it.
soon I will spend the money on better quality Magazines and DO NOT plan on aver shooting American Eagle ammo out of it again.
The Gun has a high tension return spring, (higher tension than military issue that I remember ) and a little racier trigger than I am used to.
I am assuming that the ammunition was part of the problem.
I remember when I bought extra magazines for an Ishapore 2A that I had to tweak them a bit to get the to feed properly.
I am asking is this the same issue, proper ammo and proper adjustment.

MrDig:
I don't go cheaper than MetalForm magazines for my 1911 pistols, and those are pretty much "range only" - although I haven't had any serious issues with them so far, I may upgrade them do "backup HD" and keep them in the carry guns organizer loaded up.

Wilson for carry/HD, followed by Chip McCormick and the ACT-MAGs that came with the guns
