Question for 45R and all who have transitioned to ghost rings or are testing them,

When drawing, do you have any problems 'finding' the front sight? If the frontsight is slightly high, with the aperture, it may be not visible when on conventional sights they would be.

So far I have only fired one pistol with aperture sights but I really enjoyed it.

What I did was, when I presented the pistol, I brought it up to eye lever with a slight tilt (muzzle higher).
Just like my rifle, I put the front sight on the target then brought the rear sight up until it surrounded the front sight.

Seems to work well for me. YMMV

Excuse my ignorance here.....

Ghost rings on a handgun?:what: :scrutiny:

First I've ever heard of it, don't think I'd care for it.:barf:

...but then...I've never tried it either.:uhoh:

Smoke.

Smoke, I thought it was pretty silly too until I tried it. Not sure if it just FEELS faster or IS faster.

Still weighing my options.

Interesting....don't know if I'd like it, but it is interesting. How would it work if you wanted night sights? Just a big front sight? This would primarily a tactical application, right?:scrutiny:

Skunk-

I dont have any problems finding the front sight on my Ghost Rings while drawing. Once you get use to them they seem to be second nature. As you've experienced it before, you were able to pretty much blast away.

Now when I first started I had a problem finding that front sight but that was fixed when I painted the dot on the Sig. (The white paint was gone after it was dropped into a solvent tank for a deep clean). I'm going to try and shoot the Ghost Rings over the weekend without my prescription glasses and see how well I shoot.

Now the flip side to this is that Entreprise Arms also makes a ghost ring with 3 dot tritium :) So if you cant see the ring at night and need to use the traditional 3 dot system your covered. Or use the 3 dots to line up then use the ring for rapid fire. The Entreprise Arms Ghost Rings seem to be well thought out. I'm not a biggie on sighting systems but I really like this one.

As far as "feeling" faster or is faster. I feel like my shooting has gotten faster with the ghost ring setup, of course YMMV. Sactown and 9mmEphihany also felt the same way. Probably not the best for target shooting but if your happy putting them in the black with a 25 yard rapid fire NRA target then your pretty much good to go.

As with all things firearms related...practice practice practice esp if your going to stake your life or the life of others on it.

40 bucks wouldnt be a bad investment. The set that I had on the Sig might have been an older model. Skunk for your setup you want to make sure it the Ring doesnt snag anthing when drawing. That would be my main concern.

If your up this way around Christmas time your welcome to put another box or 2 of ammo into it. As long as its okay with the ms. you've got a place to stay.

Later bro

45R, what I mean about 'feeling' faster is maybe it just feels that way because I touch off the round sooner because I THINK I have a good to go sight alignment because of the wider aperture?

Whereas with my plain post and notch I'm lining them up TOO precisely, and if I let it go earlier even if slightly alinged I'll get the same results?

I don't have time to get them put on for my 3 day class this weekend but I'll put them on my Elite and run with it a while. $40 ain't bad.

Gotcha....well you didnt have any problems with chewing out that little 1" square so your sight alingment looked pretty good one paper. I just shoot and when I see that front sight line up in the ring it gets another blasting. Well just make sure you consider the snag factor before you decide to carry it.

Speed is good, Accuracy is final ala someones signature line. :)

Have fun with the 3 day class this weekend.

Does your Elite have NS?

45R, I have a Trijicon front sight and a plain black Novak rear. I was planning on the bar dot until you threw a Leatherperson into my plans.

I heard the 3-dot ghost ring arrangement is a little complicated. A circular tritium ring around the aperture would be ideal but too much to axe for :D

A Glow in the Dark Ring would be Awesome!!! I wonder if anyone makes such a beast.

Fiber Optic ring would be too fragile but tritum would be sweet!!!

Sorry to have thrown a wrench in your plans but its always good to have options. :)

I like the JP Custom DoubleRings I got for my Glock. Speed and precision potential. Put the target in the middle of the front ring, put the back ring around the front ring, let the trigger break. Quick to find and precise to align if you take the time. No night sight ability but if your target is lit at all it's easy to know if you're on target.

Black Snowperson: Got a link and a pic? Thanks.

MINE EYES

I tried the JP's on a friend's Colt; nope, not for me.
Tried the circle and diamond Caspian rears on a friend's, hmmm..........

Installed a Caspian circle on my Bomar-based 1911 with first a Caspian 'big-rod' front, then with a 'medium-rod' front, and it still sits there.

For ME it's perfect, fast, accurate (plates at 30+ yds), and fast. It's my preferred carry gun...........

Skunk, have you tried Ashley Express sights? (XS 24/7 sights now). They are extreamly fast.
