Question for Glockers

I just bought a new G17. When I was cleaning it, I noticed something a little odd about the slide to frame fit. The right side (ejection port side) of the slide fits very snugly to the frame. But the left side (slide release button side) has a bit of a gap between the slide and frame that runs the entire length of the gun. The gap is big enough that you can see the shiny recoil spring all the way down the side.

Is it normal for there to be a noticeable gap between slide and frame or do I have a defective frame?

I believe that the gap is normal, as my G17 is the same way and has functioned flawlessly.
