I am currently without a Hi-Power. I would buy an Austrian Border Guard or West German police one if I could find it, BUT I have found an Inglis Mk 1 with tangent sight in real good condition for $500. Are these really better (as in more robust) than 60's up HPs? Do commonly available HP internal parts fit or are these in Inch demensions? What do you think about Inglis's generally? Which is the 'best' variation? Can they be lightly tuned into a servicable defensive pistol? How? Thanks, I got the hots for one since Lewis Awerbuck told me they were the best and his favorite.:)

Hello. I'm hoping Mr. Guest or Inglis shooters will jump in here. My experience with Inglis Hi Powers is limited, but positive.

Current Browning/FN parts will fit such as the hammer, sear, etc, but as is the case with any replacement part (even in an FN Hi Power), some fitting can be required. The internal extractor for the Inglis is no longer produced so these have to be purchased as they can be found, usually used. I THINK C&S offers a new one, or did, but I'm not aware of cost.

The Inglis pistols I've shot worked fine, grouped, and generally fed JHP ammo that had a rounded ogive.

I think they're good pistols, but their use of the internal extractor might be an issue. These pistols have not been made in decades so you probably won't be getting one that's close to new, so the question becomes how many rounds has it fired?

Best.
