Question for owners of S&W 36's and 60's

Do any of you guys always carry a model 36 or model 60 in the front pocket of your pants?

I'm talking jeans, dress slacks, and summer shorts like bermudas/cut-off's. How do-able is it?

I fully understand that a lightweight revolver is obviously better for this mode of carry. Once upon a time I've owned both and know a steel gun is more fun at the range. (I've never carried a steel snubby in pocket though.)

Not only is it hard with a steel framed snub, the hammer is a big snafu for pocket carry. The hammerless centennial model is the best pocket gun I know.

I normally carry a Mod 13 3" either IWB or pocket
but many times I just stick my mod 60 3" in the front pocket of some pleated front dockers. I have some flatter herret grips on it and it does not cause as much of a lump at the uncle Mikes BF Goodyears

“J†frame Smith’s make excellent pocket guns, particularly in lightweight configuration. However the models that end –42 or –48 are a better choice then the 36/37/60 because these have an exposed hammer spur that can snag in the pocket. When it comes too shooting I think the all-steel guns are easier to control, but because of they’re greater weight work better in an inside-waistband holster then the pocket, but the particular pants combined with a good pocket holster can make a difference. Even with a holster (which should always be used to keep the gun positioned) they can make a pocket sag. Jeans, or cut-offs made from them can be a problem because of relatively small tight pockets. Dress pants are usually O.K. but be sure the pockets are deep enough to conceal the gun’s butt.

I carry a Centennial Airweight in my front pocket.

The only reason it's not there right now is because I'm wearing sweat pants.

Not a good idea to carry in the pants pocket. Get a good holster for concealed inside the pants carry.

I put a clip draw on my 36 and bobbed the hammer.Stays in plce and no holster to put on.Allso very fast to get out.
Before someone says anything about the bobbbed hammer-no it has never failed to fire after I bobbed the hammer,I carry winchester 110 gr silvertips in it.

I do it with my SP-101, a 36/60 would be no problem. Just need a good pocket holster and appropriately sized pants (loose fitting), may also need to change grips to a more rounded butt. It works well, and you can do it with an exposed hammer, just have your thumb over the hammer as you pull it out of your pocket.

Every now and then I carry my 331 in my pocket.

It has a hammer for those few who aren't sure. I use a Desantis "Nemisis". It's a light, inexpensive pocket holster that allows the hammer to ride just below the holster's top. Thus, so far anyway, there's been nothing to snag on when I draw. The Nemisis is also made of something that holds onto the inside of your pocket as you pull out you gun.
However be aware that the inside of the Nemisis is slick pack cloth. If you plan on standing on your head or something similar, get a molded leather holster from RJ.

Care to elaborate?

I've carried that way on and off now for nearly 10 years with several different handguns.

I'm assuming that "inside the pants" is actually "inside waist band," otherwise pocket carry also fits the definition of "inside the pants."

IWB, however, is a NO GO for me. I'm fat, it's uncomfortable as hell, I can't get to my gun NEARLY as quickly, the gun is generally MORE concealed inside my pants pocket, and IWB's not even remotely as secure as pocket carry.

For me, carrying a Smith & Wesson model 36, 37, or 60
in the front pants pocket would be quite difficult. Plus,
I wouldn't want to anyway; due to the "printing" factor,
as it rides much better in a IWB holster! Always keep
the element of suprise on your side.

I carry a 442 in the front pocket of Docker-style slacks or shorts using a leather holster.

I can carry, uncomfortably and lopsidedly, a S&W 649, but not for very long. It makes me walk funny.

15.8 vs. 24 ounces. I'm 6' tall and weigh 180 give or take a big meal.

442 in front pants pocket, in Uncle Mike's pocket holster. Works ok, not fast, but not expected to be. Not a 'serious piece' but what I use when my usual full size piece is impractical.

The 'hammerless' airweight guns are the best way to go. I did bob the hammer spur on my wife's M37 many years ago and it makes a very nice reliable piece.

Bermuda, Dockers or 'cargo' style shorts are no problem. I go to ankle carry when the pants don't have pockets large enough for comfortable carry.

In the pocket of a jacket, my mod 60 works fine. In pants, not so much.
