Im a happy new owner of a sig 1911 nitron! I want go have at least a box of defensive ammo around for it...I know 1911s have a rep for being picky with Jhp ammo esp when new, and prices being wht they are I cant afford to buy tons of different types to try out nor hundreds of rounds to ' break it in' right away...so I was wondering what brand you guys would sggest that tend to feed well in your sig 1911s. Thanks

I don't own a Sig, but do own other 1911's. The Gold Dot ammo seems to feed reliably in everything I have. You are still gonna have to shoot what you get.

I second the gold dot advice. They feed reliable in all my firearms including my sig c3 1911. I've shot 40 gold dots out of it with no failures.
Corbon power balls also feed good in my c3. 120 fired with no trouble.
Whatever you choose to carry in your 1911, I'd try to at least fire a couple of boxes.

You can save some money by trying to achieve the 200 flawless rounds by starting with 150 rounds of FMJ and shooting the last 50 rounds of premium JHP...the Gold Dot and Ranger 230gr JHPs have worked well for me.

That way if you get some FTFs, it will likely by with the FMJ and you can start over with them rather than the more expensive JHP. But if you get a FTF with the JHP, I wouldn't be comfortable until I could get it to feed 50 in a roll at one sitting

I have a Sig Scorpion Carry. We took it to the range along with a Remington R1 and Springfield Champion Operator Lightweight. We used Remington UMC, Winchester white box, both with 230-gr bullets, and two handloads, one with 200-gr Lasercast and the other with 230-gr Lasercast. All fed without fault in all guns. The Sig consistently hit about 1" higher than the others, regardless of ammo. One of my sons, not content to eat the bullseyes out of the targets, blew out the small text boxes in the corners with it. All shooting was at about 30 feet, standing, hand-held.
We're all fans of Winchester Silvertip and Federal Hyrda Shok. We only fired a few of these more expen$ive rounds, but they fed in all guns without problems. The Sig, BTW, was just out of the box new. The others had already had a couple thousand rounds through them.
The Sig was (or seemed) the heaviest of them all, and none of us liked the rail. It is sharp and, for lack of a more descriptive term, it gets in the way. Tough to find a holster for it, too. Apparently the slide and rail are a tad larger than other Commander-size 1911s.
That said, it's weight made rapid follow-up shots easy. One of our sons is professional military and stole the R1. Another is a cop and stole the Springfield to go with the Operator he stole from me some years ago, so that leaves me stuck with the Sig.
Life sucks . . ..:D

I have a Sig 1911 XO, and it has been reliable with everything that I've fed it. Only twice has the slide failed to lock back after the last round, and I attribute that to the magazines (same mag, and not since I moved to the Kimber TacPro flush fitting magazines). I typically feed it WWB, but with the availability crisis, I've thrown some Remington and Blazer in there as well. Still incredibly reliable, and I have the utmost confidence in it. For carrying I typically use Gold Dots, and as everyone has noted, they feed and fire impeccably.

I have a Sig 1911 and it has functioned great with all HP ammo I have tried. It is not picky at all. I load 230 gr Hydrashock as my primary defensive load
