Question for single-stage afficianados

What did you do to capture primers better?
I believe I was referring to upgrading to the cast single stage, breech adapter model, which has a hollow shaft and a catch tube. I don't often decap separately except for .223, all the rest handgun, straight wall cases, cleaned without first decapping, so the primer catcher doesn't get much use on that press. I don't prime on it either.

Misunderstood. Sorry.

I'm just interested in understanding the differentiation between the SS presses, or why a manufacturer would get into a market segment that already seems (to me) well-supplied.

Actually, it is a good question and one that I can't fully answer.

I can, of course, see the need for each manufacturer to offer a "budget" model and a "premium" model, but beyond that it's not readily apparent to me that there is a market for much else in the single stage world or that the market is broad enough to support new entrants. The guys making the equipment must see the demand otherwise they wouldn't spend shareholder money on new products, but where it is going to come from is a mystery to me.

My question was sincerely that - a question, not an argument. Analogous, perhaps, to the drummer asking his guitar-playing friend what the heck the difference is between a telecaster and a stratocaster.

My son is a full-time student, part-time professional musician. He can probably explain the difference between a telecaster and a stratocaster, but to me they're both just guitars.

I'm just trying to get a sense as to what the various presses do that is different from one another, or if it is basically a commoditized market. Your explanation of the two different models of RCBS press is exactly the kind of thing I was interested in hearing.

The thing is that the old Reloader Specials that I have, which are from the 1970's were replaced by a similar model that has a less mechanically advantageous compound leverage system, so what was for me the key difference is now sort of muted.
