In my opinion if you want a semi auto try to find a Browning BAR. However, if you want a bolt action I'd strongly consider the Savage Model 10 or Model 110 with the accu trigger. I'm not sure which the 308 is. The Marlin XS7 would also be a good choice as would the Stevens 200. The Stevens 200 is basically a Model 10 Savage only without the accu trigger which I prefer.

well i didnt find any stevens 200 with sights. but i found one model mossberg atr1000 with iron sights, but only comes with synthetic stock. if you buy the wood stock, no sights. arrggg.....

The Stevens 3-position safety beats out the Marlin. I would rather have an aftermarket trigger like the Rifle Basix or Timney than the Acu-trigger. Savage also has a lot more esperience and years of research with bolt guns. EGW makes a great picatinny scope base for the Savage/Stevens 200. My Walmart has the Stevens for $315.

There are deals out there to be had. Make your mind up with want you want/don't want and how much you're willing to pay. Buying previously owned can give you an upgrade for the same money. If you buy used you need to know more because they don't usually come with guarantees. Don't forget next month people will be getting the bills for what they bought this month and you may find a motivated seller.

Tikka T3. Won't find anything nicer in that price range. Cabelas and Bass Pro have both had them on sale for under $500.
