I read on another thread of reloading .45 using CCI 100 primers. I'm new at this and have used what I was told at the gun store where I bought my supplies - CCI 300 Large Pistol Load. Can anyone enlighten me about the difference? Any info on experiences with other primers would be appreciated.

if you're talking about .45 acp, CCI 300 large pistol. not sure about 45 colt, i think it's the same though. check the reloading manual

Tex: you have the right primers! CCI-300.;)

I think someone might have had a typo. 100 is a Federal primer number.

The .45 GAP uses small pistol primers. The .45 ACP and .45 (long) Colt usually use large pistol primers.

Also, apparently the Federal Ballisticlean non-toxic .45 ACP ammunition also uses small pistol primers. In this case, the primers themselves are specially designed. Reloading these cases with commonly available commercial primers may or may not deliver expected performance.

I hope this helps!

Well darn, mek42. Guess I had better stop priming my Winchester and Federal .45 ACP NTs with standard Small Pistol Primers (WSP). They work just fine with, maybe, a 25 fps loss...Maybe...:)

Bushmaster, that's why I said "may or may not" - I have no experience with nor access to data regarding reloading the small primer pocket cases. The description of the NT ammunition said that the primers were lead (and mercury?) free. I'm glad things are working for you - thanks for letting us know that regular primers work fine in the NT small primer pocket cases!
