If it accepts AK mags, it's a SKS-M or SKS-D. How long is the barrel? 20" or 16"?

Getting ANY SKS (regardless of country of origin) in decent shape for $125 is a great deal in my book. Bonus points if it's a SKS-D. Good on ya, mate.

The Yugos are alright guns and my first SKS was a Yugo. They will shoot about 4 MOA on average if the bore is in good shape. My gun is rather picky about soft point ammo (I don't know if this is a problem with all Yugos or just mine) and I have better luck with FMJs or HPs. If it is going for roughly the same price ($125-150) and is in good condition then there is no real reason not to buy it. Its value is likely to increase with the way things are going...

The Yugo is a better range gun while the Chinese is a better field gun. Yugo's are built like tanks and they feel like it. I find them to be more accurate. Chinese guns on the other hand are lighter and handier.
$125 is a great deal on the Yugo too. Not nearly as good a deal as you got on the other one, but you would have no problem selling it for more than that.

I have a pretty good range gun in a nice german mauser. but I did like the feel of the Yugo as well .

Sadly, my father forbid me and my brother from joining the military. He had some "interesting" experiences in Vietnam (and other "close-by areas") and decided that four generations of military service was enough for our family legacy.
He won't talk about it. All I know is he's retired W-4 in the Navy.

well I went out and found out that my sks shoots like a sweet dream. I also picked up some ak mags for it and they all fire without any issues...yaaaa. now I just have to go and locate yet more ammo. it seems to like wolf, which is currently selling for 5.95 here

1)Was your SKS originally built (at the factory) to use AK mags? More than a few on Gunbroker look tough in the photos with their large mags. If so, then you found a rare type of weapon. Does it function really well? You don't seem to already have an AK.
2) Do people with an extra AK or SKS ever trade a gun for about 2-3,000 rounds of ammo?
Don't get me wrong-I'm not in the market for anything except ammo.
The economy will be in real trouble for a while and the ammo bubble could deflate a bit by this summer, if there is no serious talk of ludicrous (higher) taxes in D.C., or federal semi-auto restrictions.

I thought it may have been modified as well, but I took it to a gunshop that I truly trust and the owner wanted to buy it as it has not been modified and he verified it is a model D, which does take the ak mags. I had today off from work and went shooting it again with some mags that I purchased as well, and we fired off about 200 rounds with no issues at all. No, I do not have an AK, I am alwasy looking though.

I am not sure if people trade for ammo or not. I did pick up another sks, the yugo I mentioned earlier, but I haven't fired it yet as I am concentrating on the ak mags and building up a bit more ammo. I feel a little bit short since I only have 1500 rounds and it is so much fun to shoot this baby.
I think it is a nice addition and from what I have heard on here, I got it at a nice price. The Yugo I was able to get for 100.00. they surround my 870, 8mm mauser and my 9mm (which is a hipoint) that has had over 500 rounds through with no problems. I am gonna add a 40 soon as well.
