So, I'm currently in the process of filling out the application and it says that I am to put down two character references. I called the office and they said that they can be relatives, so long as then don't live in the same house as I do.

My mother and father divorced about a year ago, and my father's driver's license no longer has the same address as mine as he moved out. I currently share my address with my mother still, as I am currently in college and have kept my official address as my mom's house.

Would using him as a reference look bad, or should I look to others? I am trying to keep the fact I'm getting a CHL very quiet considering I don't really want to broadcast to everyone that I'm going to be carrying a gun, so I'm trying to keep the people who know to a minimum.

This is for Oregon, by the way. I'll give them a call again when I can, but as of now they're not picking up the phone.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Put me down. I'll give you a good reference.

I wonder what would happen if you put down Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.... they both thought you should be able to carry a gun!

My true personal opinion is that I wouldn't worry about keeping the CHL such a huge secret. Are your friends really that bad? Besides, isn't Oregon a shall issue state?

Just got my Oregon CHL, on my paper work it said they could not be related to me. I just put down a few of the local sheriff deputies that I know down. The sheriff in our county is very pro carry, he thinks that if every one carried, he might not have a job, but it would be a safe place to be.
