The question is I'm looking at getting a bigbore Revolver.Out of a 4" Redhawk will the recoil of a 44 mag using Winchester white box loades be heaver from a 44 over the same style load out of a 45 colt. Sorry if this sounds dumb but trying to see what would be a good fit. Leaning toward THE 45 COLT.

Recoil is a product of bullet velocity times bullet mass. In general, given about the same bullet weight, the .44 Magnum will be much higher velocity than the .45 Colt, so the recoil will be higher.

Other factors being equal, felt recoil will be greater with a lighter gun, and will vary with grip shape, grip material, etc.

With commonly available loads, the 44 mag will have quite a bit more recoil than the .45 Colt. If you intend to get into loadings such as those offered by Buffalo Bore, they will be about even.

Common factory loadings in .45 Colt from winchester or remington are like shooting a bigger version of .38 Special. Unless you reload, I would suggest buying the .44 magnum version simply because of the much wider variety of ammunition choices.
