Hello again, I bought these bullets at a local gun show from an old guy selling off some of his reloading supplies. The yellow plastic box with Speer colors of Gray, black & yellow label on it says; "10mm 180GR .400 plated hollow point bullets" Are these really plated or are they jacketed? As I didn't know Speer even made plated bullets. I know Berry's plated bullets have a velocity limit of 1250 fps. and if these are indeed plated, should I use jacketed data or lead data? Thanks again, LM

Speer Gold Dot HP are Plated, but not anywhere near the same as the cheap Berry/Rainier type plated.

If they are the Speer gold dots they are plated but it is a very thick plating if they are gold dots you can use jacketed data

Speer made two types of plated bullets for a while and may still do so. One is the ever popular Gold Dot, the other is the Uni-Core. The latter is similar in construction. I think the Uni-Core line has now been replaced with the Deep Curl designation.

Look up the part number on the box. Speer makes several versions of plated bullets, but so far as I know they are all supposed to be treated the same as jacketed, at least the one's I've used, Gold Dots included.

Thanks for the replys, I fired a few test rounds today using mid-range jacketed data. Had no issues, shooting them in two different pistols. LM
