I like to ask is this the way it is on the PPKs 380 CAL.
I find loading the clip with 7 rounds then inserting the clip in the gun rack the slide .I round is the chambered and then hit the button release to remove the clip to add a extra round that hold 7 rounds.I find the clip takes a little to pull down on see the next round in the clip seem to move forward about 1/16" onto the feed ramp for the next round to follow. The clip down come down out of the gun but will not drop like the 1911 magazine
I wonder if this is the way the gun operates :I tried a few bullets FMJ round nose :I seem to find the Winchester FP FMJ is not as bad as the federal round nose. The gun operates excellent NO stove pipes or fail to feeds on the range.I do notice when the clip is out of the gun with 6 shots remaining in the clip the top bullet has moved forward about 1/8"

This is normal for the Walther PP series and a number of other small autos.

All my previous Walther PP series guns did it, and so does my Kahr Arms K9.
All that counts is, is it reliable?

The practice of "topping up" the magazine is quite modern and was not normally done at the time most of those small pistols were issued. It is easy with a PP/PPK to simply drop a round in the chamber, release the slide and then load a full magazine.

my Interarms does it also

I never load by dropping a round in the chamber and dropping slide extractor not made to work that way. Round suppose to slide up under it from mag. But do as you wish. its your pistol.
