Thanks, Zak. Looks like much more machining, but might be worth it if you are in the market for a new bolt anyhow:

LMT ??

Will the LMT fit in a SP-1 AR-15 ? It is the original with the 20" barrel and the 1-12" twist.

The LMT bolt will drop in to any .223/5.56 AR-15 or M16. It works with the standard barrel extension and bolt carrier. You should always recheck headspace when replacing the bolt, however.

They are pricey.

444,

Unfortunately, I have no experience with chromed BCGs and am not claiming that they are better, just that they might be. And, by everything I have read over on AR15.com by people that know infinitely more on the subject than I do, I think they are worth looking into. One problem that they seem to help improve is reliability after firing LOTS and LOTS of rounds. Personally, I doubt I will ever in my life fire anough ammo between cleanings to justify a chrome BCG, but then again, I doubt that I will ever need a BUIS in a match or a SD situation, but I have one anyway. Never hurts to have the best.

Some of the very old COLT M16 bolt carriers were chromed. I believe that was before the rack gear was cut in for the FA. YMMV.
