i looked at a comparison chart in a forum comparing the dpms lr308 to the armalite ar10

i have a question concerning chrome lined barrels the dpms rifles werent lined in chrome but the armalites were

on both brands stainless steel barreled model it listed n/a for chrome lining

my question is to the stainless barrels not benefit from chrome lining?

Not an expert, but I don't think you can chrome line a stainless steel barrel.


Wouldn't need to. Chrome's main purpose is corrosion resistance. It is very slick, aiding in extraction and feeding. It is also harder than steel or stainless steel, so it is more resistant to wear.


I like chrome. It works. Easier to clean, nice and tough finish. Accurate enough (although, not as accurate as a non-chromed barrel).
