Howdy all,

I recently got a chance to shoot one of these fine autos and for some reason I was expecting it to not feel so good, but it sat well in my hand and recoil was quite manageable.

Anyway, I only had a chance to shoot about 50 rounds that day through it, and I experienced three FTF's. Each one happened while trying to feed the last round in the magazine. I happened to be shooting some sub-standard ammo too, but it wasn't my choice so I'm not complaining (much). I quickly deduced that the problem is most likely the magazine. I think it was the factory mag, though I don't know the actual brand however.

I don't have any other opportunity to test it for a while, but I wanted to ask fellow THRers who are much more knowledgeable than I, what I could recommend to the owner of the pistol. Replace the ammo for sure -- replace the mag or is there anything else that should be looked at first?

I'd suspect something with the OAL of the ammo, or maybe the shape of the bullet. Just try another mag and see if it still happens.

Factory magazines are stainless and have a plastic baseplate with the Ruger eagle logo molded in.

I had the same thing happen with my P90 when I first got it. A Wolff recoil spring one step stronger than factory fixed it for me.

Factory ammo?

I've had one for two years and have put about 1100-1200 rounds through it with no malfs whatsoever. The factory magazines work very well. I think your problem is strictly ammo-related -- which is odd in itself since Rugers will generally digest just about anything.

FTFs are almost always the fault of out-of-spec ammo or a bad magazine.

Rarer than hens teeth to find it the fault of a P345 that is not otherwise broken or gummed completely up.

Run some WWB thru it first to prove/disprove the ammo question.

I have many hundreds through my P345 and have only had 1 FTE. It was in the very first mag through the gun, so I'll assume it was a very, very brief teething period.

I would suspect the ammo or the mag.

Thank you everyone, for your replies.

I'm trying to find out which brand of ammo it was, but I know it was pretty crappy. I figured if it were the fault of the ammo only, why then would it be always the last round cycled from the mag?

That's my reasoning anyway.

I don't remember the Ruger logo on the buttplate of the mag, so I'd better ask again sometime soon.

Ruger is supposed to have an updated mag follower, but thats just hearsay:)

Mine used to ftf on the first round, but has been running great, I figured the new mag springs combined with the light recoil spring was causing that.

Sage:
If you were using non-Ruger mags, especially, say, ProMags, all bets are off. I had a ProMag (or USA Mag) 10-rounder that stuck out the bottom... Never had reliable feeding with it.

Make sure you've got Ruger originals and go from there...

Only two, as far as I know, first plastic (7 rounds) and later metal (8 rounds).

I second the suggestion to make sure you're using a Ruger magazine.
