Greeting's All-

Just wondering if the new Hornady TAP ammo uses steel cases like Wolf? :(
And, does these cases have a lacquer coating applied to them? :uhoh:

BTW, I don't shoot the Wolf junk in any of my guns. :) And if the TAP
is the same, I will refrain from using it as well. :D
 
From the Hornady web site under features for TAP ammo:

2). Revolutionary black, nickel-coated cases
eliminate the potential for corrosion and
improve feeding in all firearms.

Hornady is at the other end of the spectrum from Wolf. There is no comparison between the two.
 
What do you not like about Wolf ammo? other than it is cheap. Just curious.

I shoot rifles on my grandmother's land a lot. Hard to find the brass often enough much less police it. It is cheap and I have never really had problems with it.

I got some of that Hornady TAP 9mm JHP for my Kahr P-9. Worked fine for me. There was some overpenetration on the paper though. :)
 
I don't like the fact that WOLF uses a lacquered case, and when fired
the brass becomes HOT; therefore the lacquer coating comes off and
is embedded in the lands and grooves. :( This creates a dangerous
condition, almost as much as shooting a jacketed bullet in a chamber
that has used lead during a range session.

BTW, the old school of thought was to shoot the jacketed bullet "to
clean out any lead deposited in the bore. Little did we know,
that we were doing more harm than good! :uhoh:

I'm anxious to try some of the Hornady 230 grain TAP JHP's. Looks
like the bullet serrations are cut much deeper than those found on
Federal Hydra-Shok's, Speer Gold Dot's, etc? Should help the slow,
fat .45 caliber round expand some wouldn't you think?
 
According to David DiFabio of Ammolab, although it's good ammo, at last report it's still the XTP projectile. Good penetrator, but sometimes iffy expander. Still, as another fellow is fond of saying, a 9mm may expand but a 45 never shrinks ;)
 
There are some modern designs that have better recorded expansion then Hornady TAP, I haven't found an over the counter HP round that is as accurate. It's also very low flash.

The 230gr TAP is my preferred .45 round. All of my 1911's eat it up.
