Questions about a Lee reloader kit.

I tried searching the site to keep from multiple posting but the search only takes me to a blank page.


A buddy at woks uses a LEE 50th ANNIVERSARY KIT reloader for his pistol rounds and absolutely loves it.
I was thinking about getting the same to reload my pistol rounds but came across the LEE DELUXE TURRET PRESS KIT which cost only a few bucks more, which is the better value?

The Breech Lock Challenger press, which comes with the 50th Anniversary Kit, is a great press. The die system is nice, the priming system works very well, and the spent primer catcher is excellent. The turret press that comes with the Deluxe Kit is an older design, and while it functional, and faster than the Challenger, my preference between the two would be the 50th Anniversary kit.

That said, the Classic Turret, is a much newer design, its cast iron, and has the best features of the Breech Lock Challenger and the best features of the older turret, plus its much stronger.

What Landric said! The older deluxe kit features the old cast aluminum turret. There's a bunch of things that cause problems with it, the worst is the spent primer disposal problem. They're SUPPOSED to go into a space on both sides of the ram. HOWEVER about half don't go there, they're all over your bench, floor, and in your lap!:banghead:

The new classic turret handles the primer straight down the center of the hollow ram, into a plastic tube that's capped off for later disposal. Kempf gunshop has the classic turret in a kit that comes with whatever dies/caliber you want. look here;

The turret design makes for a good production rate when used in the auto advance mode. Take the auto advance shaft out, you can use it as a single stage press. The four hole turret is cheap enough to allow you to set-up each die set in it's own turret. Turrets change out in a matter of seconds.

If I had to do it all over again, I would not have gotten my Dillon 550B. After purchasing the Classic Turret, I realize that it would meet all of my needs. The 550B is now setup only for my competition 45LC. It is just too big of a PITA to change calibers. The CT from Lee can be changed in seconds, literally. AND, it can be used as a single stage press if desired, just remove the indexing rod. It is the best of all worlds, IMHO. Go with CT. You can't go wrong.

Like Uncle Chan said, but get the Lee Classic Cast (iron) Turret instead of the aluminum base Lee Turret.
