One of our favorite Vendors has a good deal on some pulled rounds.

Mfr: Winchester
.308 Soft Point, Flat Base, 150/gr

I now have two M1A's to feed and thought these would make for some less expensive plinking ammo.

They state that they had heavy crimps prior to being pulled.

These are obviously not going to win any beauty contests, but I'm sure that they will work / shoot just fine.

My Questions:

Does loading bullets such as these cause any unsuspected aggravation that I need to factor in?

Since these have already received a heavy crimp, would you consider crimping necessary?

I currently do not crimp my 308 rounds for my auto loaders or bolt guns.

Thanks for looking.

Any distortion in the jacket ( heavy crimp) is likely to make them less accurate. If the act of loading them originally does not swage down the diameter you should be good to go. I have used many pulled bullets with good results. I generally do not crimp my rifle bullets unless they are going to be used in tubular magazines.

Most of my bulk bullets are from pulled sales like you refer to. For my uses I just run through the whole batch when I get them and separate any that look or are obviously questionable.

Once done I'll work up a load and use that till the batch is done. I have pulled in several calibers and run them through both bolt and semi for both target and hunting. The crimp may or may not be required, but I'll try some in the auto's to see if it helps the groups. Usually never have any movement otherwise.

I have seen pulled bullets that were so badly abused they were smaller in diameter below the neck; that's rare and RMR would have stated as much if it were the case.

I can suggest pulled bullets in all but precision applications, and an M1a seems to fit that bill nicely. I concur that crimping is not necessary in almost any action is unless you're attempting to bandaid some other issue.

If these are from RMR I'm sure they're fine. Load them as usual.

Yes. RMR

I wasn't not concerned with the bullets they are selling.
I know that they won't pedal junk.

I was just curious if I there was experience out there that could be shared when dealing with pulled bullets.

I'll be running them one by one on a single stage, so sorting will be easy.

If they look OK I load them like any other bullet. I have a huge supply of pulled 175 smk. I've shot them for years through my m1a. I crimp all semi autos.

This is copied out of the Email I Received:

These were all pulled from Winchester ammo.
It's quite apparent that Winchester crimps stuff way too much so they have some pretty deep crimp marks but other than that they seem to be okay.
We are sending a few extras to make up for any that aren't usable.

.
OK then, thanks
