For the past two years I've been too stupid to buy a .22 in any form. Even though there's a couple pistols and accessories (for my 1911) that I really want, they don't do me much good if I can't afford to shoot often enough. So, I've settled on a .22, particularly a buck mark.

However, long term plans for the pistol include a suppressor with a tactical solutions threaded barrel. Unfortunately, the version I have my eye on (5.5 target, or URX 5.5) both have full length rails on top. In a dissasembly picture, I noticed that the upper receiver (with the rail) comes off.

So question 1 is, can I buy a non railed upper so when I put the threaded barrel and can on, there's no issues?

Issue 2, I plan to put bricks and bricks of ammo through this thing, probably about a brick a weekend if I can. Do they last as long as the ruger and are parts as available?

Being that I plan on a threaded barrel and can't use the original top, should I just get the non-railed version, which I don't want as much (keep in mind it will be a good long while before this happens, so it'll be in stock form for many thousands of rounds first)?

Also, pr0n is welcome, and any other experiences or suggestions are as well.

Not sure about all your other questions, but I have never heard of anyone ever wearing out a Buckmark. Shoot all you want.

It looks like the rail feature is a replacement for the standard Browning sight rib and pins to the front sight base. I would imagine that you could put the standard shorty Browning sight rib on, and be happy. Ask Browning. But why not get a standard (non-railed) model, since you're going to replace the barrel anyway?

I have easily 20K rounds thru one of my Buckmarks, and it's still as tight and accurate as the day I got it.

Good luck wearing out a buckmark. I have my own range and it's my favorite of all my guns to shoot. If I could go back and make the choice on which one to purchase again, I would have gone with the camper (the cheapest buckmark), replaced the sight base with a tactical solutions integrated rail (it has the rear sight built in) and called it good.

If you're going to change the bbl out, it's a piece of cake (the screw is in there good and you might have to heat it to extract it, but that's not much of a big deal).

As for non-railed, there is no such thing. The buckmark design utilizes the rail to hold the barrel to the frame. Rail=sight base in my mind.

Anyway, the frame is aluminum stock which is obviously rust proof. You can get a stainless slide if you want, but I think its really a non-issue since all the internals are blued steel anyway. If you get a tactical solutions barrel, it is a sleeved bbl, but who cares, it's a .22LR and those bbls are as (or more) precise than any other bbl. you would get for it anyway.

As far as parts available, yes - there are plenty, you just need to know where to look.

I picked up a stainless camper in december and have shot about 1500 rounds through it already. Cleaned it twice, and its still running great. Very accurate and reliable gun.
It has a half rail on top, which is used to cap the action, and hold the slide in place. Makes take down very simple. I don't know how the full rails attach but I would guess that they are bored in the same places and could be replaced with a half rail. I think you would have to find a font sight for it though.
Parts seem easy to find although I haven't needed any yet. Midway has buffers, and the basic springs available, and they are only a couple bucks a peice.

Called to order the buckmark camper model, but my preferred dealer couldn't get anything in the buckmark range I wanted. I decided on a MKIII bull barrel instead. It's not -exactly- what I wanted from the get-go (I'd have rather had a MKII for that matter), but I highly doubt I'll be disappointed.

My dad has been trying to kill his buckmark ever since he received it as a christmas gift in 98 or so... the only thing that has ever been cleaned was the bolt face and barrel... it has never been taken apart although sprayed with some WD-40 a few times... I couldn't even begin to count the number of rounds through that thing but I know when I was in high school I was putting a bulk pack through it every week for four years give or take a couple months...

Its got at the very least a hundred thousand through it (More likely upwards of 200,000...) mostly Remington bulk golden bullets and federal bulk...
