Questions for IDPA

When I put my IDPA game face on, even more with a revo, I just tell myself every shot is a zero. You can't miss.

I've heard it said that if you get all zeroes you are going too slow. Of course the best shooters (at the national level) go as fast as they can and get almost all zeroes.

A concealment garment. And a willingness to help paste targets between shooters. ;)

IDPA (and USPSA) rewards the best balance of speed and accuracy. The most accurate shooter rarely wins, but the top shooters generally score a lot closer to the top of the accuracy ranking than the bottom.

For the new shooter, though, I'd just suggest taking it slow, be safe and have fun.

wow - looks like you're set. :p

FWIW, the cylinder release latch on your 686 looks like an aftermarket latch (California Competition Works?), which isn't IDPA-legal. As a new shooter, I seriously doubt anyone will give you any grief about it, but if you stick with revolver, I'd consider putting a (new style) stock latch on.
yep, that is what it is on that cylinder release latch. i ordered a factory one off of Numbrichs for $18.50.

Good luck! You will have fun. I shoot USPSA rather then IDPA. Like it has been said, fewer rules, more shooting. My advice is to shoot one class per match, not all the same day. I am usually hot and tired after a match, would hate to think about shooting through multiple times!

Take any penalties as a learning experience and don't get excited about getting. Don't worry if you get a failure to neutralize. As long as the penalties weren't a terrible safety violation to get you DQ'ed, so what for the first few times. Learn from them.

As far as guns - take the one easiest to shoot. As far as holsters, for the beginning use something simply like an IWB. Don't worry about being a fast steely eyed dealer of death from your concealment holster.

You are gaining basic skills. You compete against yourself to improve.

Buy yourself a vest if you don't already have one and forget
the inside the waistband holster. IDPA is a game, and a damn
fun one. It is also a competition, don't try to re-invent the wheel.
Do what the rest of the guys are doing.

True dat. Certainly read the rulebook, but "buzzer brain" has a way of zapping your memory. Most of us learned the game 3 seconds at a time. :p
