Questions on Concealed Permit - Indiana

I live in Indiana, and I plan on getting a lifetime concealed carry permit. I have a question I'd like to ask before I fill out my application. Hopefully some hoosier out there can help me out. I obtained a normal 4 year permit at 18, and like many a stupid 18 year old I promptly got in trouble. Not with a weapon, mind you, but an embarrassing misdemeanor I'd rather not talk about Not domestic battery or any other offense that bars gun ownership. I buy long guns regularly and have never had a wait. I was given some pretty hefty fines and a term of probation. This was almost 10 years ago now, so the specifics are a bit blurry. This leads to my question. On the application, it asks if your permit has ever been suspended. I did have a permit at the time I was on probation assigned by a county court. How do I know if it was suspended or not? Would the ISP send me a notice? Or is it suspended anytime you are on probation? I don't want to say it has been suspended when it hasn't, and I most definitely don't want to say it hasn't when it has.

The way that the application process works here is: I fill out an application and take it to the clerk at the sheriff's office, who transcribes it an throws my copy away. I don't know what kind of sense of humor she has, so I don't want to show up there with out all my ducks in a row. As I understand it she conducts an interview and writes out a report on my character, so she can make or break this.

Indiana is shall issue. An interviewer can't deny you a permit on their whim; they have to follow Indiana law.

Look at the signature line on the application. Does it say something like by signing you are acknowledging that to the best of your knowledge the answers are true and correct, or something about intentional deceptive answers? If you meet the conditions for signing that application, then answer to the best of your ability and sign and submit.

I would think if your permit was suspended they would have notified you.

Under Indiana code they would have had to given you written notice and you would have had to turn your permit in....

IC 35-47-2-5
Suspension or revocation of license; failure to return license; rules concerning procedure for suspending or revoking license
Sec. 5. (a) The superintendent may suspend or revoke any license issued under this chapter if he has reasonable grounds to believe that the person's license should be suspended or revoked.
(b) Documented evidence that a person is not a "proper person" to be licensed as defined by IC 35-47-1-7, or is prohibited under section 3(g)(5) of this chapter from being issued a license, shall be grounds for immediate suspension or revocation of a license previously issued under this chapter. However, if a license is suspended or revoked based solely on an arrest under section 3(g)(5) of this chapter, the license shall be reinstated upon the acquittal of the defendant in that case or upon the dismissal of the charges for the specific offense.
(c) A person who fails to promptly return his license after written notice of suspension or revocation commits a Class A misdemeanor. The observation of a handgun license in the possession of a person whose license has been suspended or revoked constitutes a sufficient basis for the arrest of that person for violation of this subsection.
(d) The superintendent shall establish rules under IC 4-22-2 concerning the procedure for suspending or revoking a person's license.

The state of Indiana is generally outstanding in its respect for the Second Amendment; but, unfortunately, you can't carry openly without a permit. Indiana issues a "license to carry handgun," which authorizes you to carry concealed, openly, or in a vehicle. Without a permit, about all you can legally do with a pistol is transport it in a locked case (the trunk works).

If you have an Indiana LTC you can open carry. I wouldn't recommend it. Whole nother argument which would be better discussed in a new thread.

If you do want to carry openly in town, please do your local law enforcement a favor and buy them a bottle of aspirin first...
