Mine was born in 1981, Looking at many pics of this model I have never seen one with the smooth stock and forearm that mine has, most have checking, also mine has a Gold trigger. Is this typical , As for sights I have my mind set on these http://www.skinnersights.com/ . with the front to go along. Thanks all ,this is a great forum.

Hi again!

Lone Gunman, I swear I'm not stalking you.:D

Mine was made in '76 and has the same furniture and trigger as yours.
I also have a '74 vintage 336 in .30-30 that has them.
It's kind of a fetish for me, actually.
If I could find one of each in .357, .45-70, and a 39 in .22lr with the same trigger and wood, I'd be as happy as a pig in $#!t.

That configuration was standard back in the days when those were made.

On the Skinner sights...

I have a 1894c (.357), I also have the skinner rear sight. Great system you are going to love it! However, you may need a taller front sight, MIDWAY sells them, I needed a .375 height front sight to correct the elevation. Also if you decide to get the williams fire sight front (like I did), or any othe fiber optic front, Marlin makes a factory cut-out hood for it, ya just gotta call 'em to order.

Marlin started checkering their stocks about 10 years ago, iirc. I did'nt like it at first, but it kinda grew on me.

I have a 1974 model that is identical to yours, except for the fact that mine is missing about 95% of the bluing:what:

That is a good looking sight. I use the AO Express Sights. I love them. They are similar to the one you linked. I did have to use a taller front sight and then ended up getting one that was too tall and had to file it down. I went with the thinnest front sight I could find. This is my favorite hog rifle.

Loud mouth schnook, thanks for the link. I'm still unable to determine my rifle's born on date. When I enter the first two digits of the s/n, it comes back "No match was found for 08." What gives?

My rifle has the confounded cross-bolt safety, has the smooth, uncheckered walnut stock, and the serial number is 080301XX.

Interesting, Husker.
Yep, I had to try your number myself just so I could say I did and sure enough, just like you said, the response is, "Wha?"

Hmmm...crossbolt safety...'80's, I'd hafta guess but uncheckered wood, eh?
Could be aftermarket. Does the buttplate have the "Marlin" logo on it?

Also, is your trigger blued or gold colored?

Come to think of it, once upon a time I had an 1894cs whose SN started in "06". Got it new in '94. Crossbolt safety but CHECKERED stock and fore end.

Hmmm...curiouser and curiouser...:scrutiny:

Hey, it ain't stainless, is it?

This Marlin has a black trigger, and looks very similar to the thread starter's rifle, except for the fact his has what looks like a white line spacer in the recoil pad. Mine has a Marlin reddish rubber recoil pad with a black spacer. Hmmm.........

Edit: One difference between this rifle and the post starter's is my rifle's front sight post is hooded.

Hey thanks for that link! I just check mine and it told 1979.

1 year younger then myself.
