another question, buds. lots of talk about nufinish. how much for you average tumbler? and what do with it? knead it thru media w hands, or just let it spread itself out?

One to one and a half capfulls or teaspoons is plenty. Pour it on the top and let it dry out, then run tumbler for 5/10 minutes, then add the brass is how I do it. You do not need to add more polish every time, you will notice it seems to not be working quit so well add a little more. This is one of those cases where less is more.

Definitely +1. Too much polish will make the media damp/stick to brass and won't work well to clean/polish cases and may cause "spots" on your brass surface. To clean/polish brass surface, crushed walnut/corn cob particles must be able to move/vibrate freely on the brass surface. For this reason, I prefer to run my walnut media on the "dry" side and add more polish only when needed.

For my Cabela's (Berry's 400) tumbler with larger bowl capacity, I will initially add 2 capfuls of NuFinish to pre-treat the fine walnut media (24 grit) with the tumbler running. I will also stir the media with a stick to expedite distributing the polish. When I don't see any clumps, I add cases (about 5-10 minutes). I will add additional capful of NuFinish every 2-3 or 3-4 batches or as needed. Keep in mind, a little less is better than a little too much polish. If you accidentally added too much polish, you can remove some treated media and add more untreated media. ;)

Can you mix the corncob and the walnut (From Pet supermarket)

Yes, I started with walnut from the pet store and Nu Finish car polish. They would come out very clean in 1.5 hours. I bought some 14/20 corn cob and mixed it 50/50 with the walnut. Now in 1.5 hours they come out very clean and shiny. With the Nu Finish I only use 1/2 cap full.

Couple times I've had spots on the cases. Couldn't figure out why. Mebbe this is the reason.

I got some pet bedding to try. The stuff I had was too coarse for .223. Would stick chunks inside the cases. Real PITA. Threw out the used stuff after one time and gave the rest away.

Now I use really fine walnut, but it doesn't clean the cases as shiny as corn cob. If I didn't have most of a 50# bag of walnut left, I'd go back to corn cob.
