I am new here and new to bolt actions. I am planning on getting a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .223. My shooting distance will mostly be 100 yards, maybe 200 or 300 yards on rare occasion. I know each gun likes its own ammo. I don’t plan on reloading. I am hoping the rifle will shoot moa or better with factory rounds. What I was wondering is if a .308 caliber is inherently more accurate than a .223. I have no idea. I think a .308 will have too much recoil for me, plus it obviously costs more. That is why I am getting a .223. Almost all reviews I read of this particular gun are of .308 not .223. So, that is why I am asking. All things being equal, does caliber of .308 vs .223 shoot equally well at my planned distances?
Also, what do people recommend in the way of scope base mounts? Two piece set or a rail? Thanks.
