I have 2 Ruger Blackhawks. One is .30 M1 and one is .45 Long Colt. Both have the 7plus inch barrel.

The .30 has some slightly thinner grips and the .45 has the factory grips.

Both I removed one side of the spring as mentioned on Gunblast to lighten the trigger the triggers seem the same.

I am shooting Wolfe FMJ in the .30 and some WV Cartridge Co 200 grain lead Cowboy loads in the .45 that are allegedly 950fps, although it doesn't seem that hot to me.

Anyway I can't seem to get the .45 to shoot as good as the .30. At about 20 yards off hand I can keep either in the black of a NRA 25 yard target about 80%. However step back 25 to 27 yards and the .30M1 is unchanged but the .45 seems to only put about a THIRD in the black.

I would say it's the ammo but the .30 seems to shoot the same no matter what ammo. Possibly the .45's thicker grip causing a minute wobble in my grip that is not noticable at 20 yards? Should I try some difft ammo?

I want to get some .45 dies and do some handloading hoping that will maybe make a difference. Do any of you have any reccomendations as far as accurate loads? Do the heavier lead bullets group tighter or does it make any difference?

Any info appreciated.

Check the throats on the .45 cylinder. Early BH had oversized throats and owners complained. Ruger finally adressed the matter but went to far and then the throats were undersized. Either way means poor accuracy with lead bullets. Undersized throats can be corrected for miminal expense. Oversized throats require larger sized bullets. You can try jacketed bullets as they are not affected as bad as the lead bullets.
