Quick Attach Holster?

What holster would you recommend as something that you could quickly throw on when necessary on whatever kind of clothing you have on?

I have been thinking about those times when you want to investigate something (say a noise) around your property or someone strange knocks at the door. I do not want to go around brandishing a weapon heedlessly and freak out someone. It seems like most holster rigs are meant for CCW where you have time to put it on, adjust it properly, dress around it etc, and you are wearing it from the moment you get up.

Is there something out there that works in a situation like this?

Interesting question. The closest thing I can think of would be a shoulder holster. You could have a handgun, spare ammo carrier, a flashlight holder and perhaps a cell phone carrier in a single place and quickly throw it on. If you still wish to maintain a degree of concealment you would need a cover garment of some kind, perhaps an oversized shirt or a light "windbreaker" jacket, left unbuttoned or unzipped. A belt holster would work poorly for this because, well, you need a belt.

Other than pajamas, or just under shorts, meaning, if you're wearing some kind of pants that will support a clip-on holster, along with a T-shirt out, or some kind of long shirt worn on the outside to cover one's holster with gun in it, I would recommend a non-expensive Uncle Mikes, either, IWB or OWB clip-on holster.

I find them great for leaving guns in safe or on tables, etc., for trigger guard protection, closed ended, and soft, being made out of a neoprene material that won't show wear marks on ones gun and protect them from scratches going in or out of safe, laying them on tables (a bit hard if you have a senior moment.. lol) and protecting the furniture itself from the sharp, hard ends, of one's gun.

They clip on anywhere, or if your gun is small enough, they go well into front pockets as well.

What I like most about them, especially the IWB clip on type, is that the pressure of one's pants, with or without a belt (but belt is better) is that they allow "very fast removal (draw-out) of one's gun IF needed..

They run around 14 bucks..

What type gun are you using for such needed, quick outside searches, if required..?

Knowing that, I may be able to point you to the correct size, as I have one for each of my guns, from the largest, P220, to the smallest, SA EMP 1911. with Px4 and P229 mid size guns, as well.

I have a couple of these:

They're good for slipping a gun into your waistband at a moment's notice.

If you don't need to conceal it, a paddle holster would work well.


If you don't mind looking like a mall ninja you could keep one of these handy with a spare mag and flashlight in the mag holsters:


Belly bands can go on very quickly too.

Although personally, I've found the fastest way to get a gun on you when you need it is to already be wearing it. Lately I've been playing around with many different carry methods, and I've found it fairly easy to have a weapon on me at any time that I'm not completely naked.

My IWB (HBE leatherworks COMIII ) goes on really fast when mated to my Wilderness instructor belt.

I'm talking 5 seconds.

What about if you are awakened and need to investigate that "bump in the night?" You will not be wearing your daytime concealment clothing, belt and other accouterments - you may be wearing pajamas, underwear or even your birthday suit.

I have found that a SmartCarry works well in this kind of situation. I just put the velcro belt on and am ready to go. Over pajamas or nothing at all it is quick and efficient for the purpose.
