I have a spare spring that I *Think* is a recoil spring for a M-1 Carbine. The spring is new in the bag, but the problem is the bag is unmarked. If this is a carbine spring, I want to put it in my carbine. But, I don't want to take the gun apart until I know this is the right spring. (I find carbine disassembly to be a PITA).

The spring measures 10 1/4 inches. Is this a Carbine recoil spring? The other possibility is it's a spare Garand op rod/recoil spring.

Geez!
I guess you don't disassemble ANY firearms, huh? The carbine is about the simplest firearm to disassemble there is!

Well, actually the dissassembly is fine. It's the "getting it back together" afterwards I have problems with. For some reason, I have a heck of a time getting the bolt and op rod back together. There's a trick to it, but I never remember the trick from one time to the next.

Don't even ask me about putting my Ruger Mk II back together!

10 1/4 inches long and about 1/4 inch in diameter.

Thanks. This appears to be a Carbine spring then. I *thought* I'd bought a spare, years ago, but couldn't remember for sure. I gotta start marking the bags when I get parts. It looks like I picked up a spare extractor at the same time. I should probably get a bolt tool sometime if I ever want to put that extractor in though.

Trebor,

After you do it a couple of times it becomes easy. Try it, you'll see.
