I almost never shoot my hunting rifle, a stainless Remington 700 in .308. In a moment of impulsiveness, I went ahead and bought a proper optic for it, a Vortex Viper 2-7x32.

Now I'm looking for a new set of rings. Since I rarely shoot it, I considered going the detachable route so that I could easily steal the scope for one of my ARs at times. (I realize the zero will be completely redone).

Are any of the sub-$60 rings worth while? I'm considering this combo for the rifle:
EGW Pictinany base + TS QD Rings:

Or am I just much better off going with a simple Talley 1 piece ring set?

Thanks.

I have three sets of Warne QD rings (same as TS rings ) and they work very well. They have a stainless recoil lug, the hardware is of high quality and they lock down very tight and don't move. The only negative (if it's important to you) is that they're heavy. I have no experience with the EGW picatinny base but I have an equivalent one from LaRue that is more expensive. The LaRue version has an integral "recoil lug" which is important to me since the base is aluminum and mounted on a Remington 700 Alaskan Ti chambered in .300 WSM. LaRue uses steel inserts (bushings) for the four screws as well. The base is also longer than the EGW version which allows me to move the scope forward for proper eye relief. I'm using Seekins rings with that set up though .... the best non-QD rings on the planet in my opinion.

I can't find any more information on the TS rings linked above yet. Tactical Solutions has made quality stuff in the past and they do look identical to the Warne QD rings. Might have to take the gamble on them, perhaps they're just rebranded rings..?

I've got a set of Weaver QD's that I paid less than thirty bucks for that lock up tight and pretty much hold zero after being taken off and reinstalled. I'm not saying they're in the same league as the Warne units, but they work as nicely and seem as well put together as my friend's Leupold QRW-and cost a whole lot less.
